Tell the world a little bit about your vehicle
My first Triumph, a 1970 Bonneville, was purchased from a college dormmate, when I received my physical notice for the draft, after winning 126 for a lottery number. Using my college loan money, I purchased it for $925 and took off for Texas. Fortunately, the Viet Nam war wound down, and my physical appointment was postponed, then ultimately cancelled. I never went back to college, and have been riding ever since, now more than 45 years. I ultimately sold this chopped Bonneville in 1975, to get money for marriage. I should have kept the bike and stayed single.
Engine/Drivetrain Modifications:
ARD magneto, Sebring Power Unit, bored .040
Suspension Modifications:
Adding a Santee Hardtail and chrome oil tank, and 8 inch over Frank fork tubes created a jacked up appearing bike, so subsequently removed 3/4 inch from top frame rail to rake frame and level the chopper, as seen in the picture, New Mexico trip.
Six bend pullbacks for bars.
Parts I made myself were the engine mount/highway pegs, electrical box, chain guard, front fender, tank mounts, and luggage rack.
Wheels/Tires Modifications:
Hallcraft 19 inch front with worthless 5 inch drum brake, with 2.75 ribbed tire.
I wanted to mount a 5.10 x 16 on the rear, but had a clearance issue with the Hardtail. That rim now runs on my T150 Trident.
Interior/Exterior Modifications:
I learned how to paint by reading articles in Custom Chopper, and painted this bike with House of Color candy apple fucia over a white pearl base. A welding student friend made the coffin tank in exchange for a paint job. A Bates 5 inch headlight lit up the road, and a King Queen seat with about a 5 inch wide pad gave me a back rest along with a sore butt. When finished, I took a trip to Mexico, via New Mexico, as shown in the album cover. Read more ยป
