Bad News..Michelin Commander
On 1/29/08 I had a Michelin Commander installed on the rear ofmy 06 RK .Since then I have rode 2000 miles all pretty much solo.So as I was doing a little walk around I looked at my rear tire and it is completely bald.Went to the dealer and he called Michelin to see if it was under recall, they said no recall but that they would reimburse or replace tire. So they are replacing with Dunlap.I hope this is an isolated case,I have run Michelin tires on my trucks with great results. That is the main reason I went with Michelin for the bike.I can assure you I dont hot dog the bike, tire pressure was at 38..The Dealer just scratched his head..Never saw one go that fast
That is not good go hear. I am having a set installed on my SG on Thursday. I've heard good things about them but we'll see.I don't care if I don't get 10k out of a rear but 2k is not good at all. I used to get 5k on my sportbikes doing wheel stands and burnouts all the time.
Sounds similar to what happened to me last season with a Metzler 880 on my Road Star. Bought a new tire, 3,000 miles later while the bike is in for service, I get a call that I need a new tire - I tell them there's no way the tire's bad because I usually get 12-14,000 out of a rear. Sure enough the tire was shot.
Ultimately, we figured out why - a FRONT tire for another bike with the same specs as a rear tire for my bike was mounted on the rear of my bike. FRONT was printed on the sidewall, but nobody saw it....

When I tell you we were all puzzeled...I had taken off a cop run flat tire with 7200 miles on it to replace it with the Michelin. So the riding conditions were the same Like I said I hope it is just an isolated case.
Well it sounds like the "Michelin magicians" are are at it again!
I will never buy another Michelin tire if I can help it! I bought a 2001 GMC C3 pick-up which they now can a Denali. Initially I was happy that it had Michelin twenty inch tires andwheels. I drove it home overnight before buying it. The next day I took it back and leased it for three years. That evening I began to notice the truck bouncing as if it had square wheels. It was weird because it would come and go but never completelystop. It felt like you were driving over ropes or small hoses.
I took it back to the dealer and they knew all about it in fact they said GM bought them a special machine to test and repair the tires. I asked how could it come and go and they said that the tires would get in sync ( all the lumps lined up together) and chip your teeth and after a few turns they would go out of sync and smooth out a little.
They said they had to take the wheels off and dismount the tires, then check the wheels for run-out and balance, then remount the tires and check them for out of round. Even though they were required to go through this procedure they knew it would be the tires. Then they would trim the tire!! That's right, shave the tire back to round by removing tread. I told them the obvious; that it was the most expensive pick-up truck made, a day old,and I wasn't interested in them cutting thousands of miles of tread off my tires etc. It fell on deaf ears.
They tested and told me two tires were so bad they couldn't shave them enough to save them and replaced them and the other two tires were acceptable. To bad their idea of acceptable wasn't on par with minethe truck dribbled for three years, it was better but not right and certainly not worthy of the high price I paid for the ride. That's the best they would do for me. I asked if it was worth the price of two tires to torture a loyal customer for three years. Their answer was they don't get any better than what you have! So you can have all those high quality Michelin tires you want.
Ride well,
Jim

hopefully it was just a defective tire.
But the compound in bike tires is a lot different than in automotive.
So don't use that as a criteria for selecting a tire for the bike.

choochoo,
It's about SIXdefective Michelin tires on the sametruck.
Soooo many defective Michelin tires they had to purchase a machine to shave them.
The total lack quality and service from Michelin.
Do you really think they put more quality in their motorcycle tires as compared to cars & trucks?
Aren't you the guy who went to small claims court over a air temperature gauge??
