I just brought home a Street Bob..
I had a problem with the left signal light on my Train, and the dealer was kind enough to send me off on a Bob for the night while they chased down the problem.
With all due respect to my Dyna brothers, I can't wait to get my softail back. It's definitely the Cadillac in comparison. I'm just too big for the bike, and the mid controls had me wound up into a 260lb cramp..
On the plus side, the bike handles like a dream and you can really toss it into the corners..
The 6 speed tranny is a nice upgrade. The thing shifts as smooth as silk, and the throws are a tad shorter. Boy, would I love that tranny in my Softail. The one major thing they left out, and only God and ***** G. know why, is the counterbalanced engine. I guess there are some who don't like seeing out of their mirrors at a stop, and enjoy numbness.
My azz is still buzzing and my my knees are still shaking. It smooths right out when moving, but there are certain speeds where the vibration comes right through the seat and blurs your vision. There is no way I could deal with that, especially when it's totally unnecessary.
One other thing in edit, I never drove a stock TC88 before.
If you're thinking about a 95 kit, don't think about it, just do it!

That whole vibration thing was what turned me off on the dynas and even the touring bikes.
I don't deal well with vibration on my back.
Would love to see the Tranny on the softail though. Thanks for the review of your ride.

that's awsome your dealer sent you home with a bob to cruise around with. I was kickin around tradin my night train for a low rider, but I think just over the last two days I decided against it. everytime I walk out in the garage and see my train I fall in love with it again. And my dad bought an 06' FXDI, when I rode it I had the same impression. cramped, vibrations, smallish....
Just seems like all the dyna's with exception of maybe a wide glide, are just too small for me, and I'm probably a little above avg guy I'd say.. 6', 250lbs, size 48-50 jacket. So the fatboy here is riding a fatboy. hehe But I just like the bigger FL's with fatter front tires. Never could get used to even the standard softail.. Seems too "jacked-up" for me and I never could get used to that skinny front tire in the curves. And mid-controls.. forget it.. If I wanted a Ducati, I'd get a real ducati. hehe
But it seems the FL's (softails especially) have a different low slung geometry than FX softails. Dyna's are almost to me like sitting on a big sportster, tall, stiff and strange. Guess it's what you're used to.
Infact, I made the mistake on sitting on a couple new Big Dogs at Myrtle Beach recently.. The big whopping Chopper was actually the most comfortable to me believe it or not. Oh I shouldn't have sat on that 117 cube chop! So I took to sitting on these big stretched out chops that I just overlooked before and I reeeeeally think I may have to get one someday.. Regardless of my issues with the skinny front tire, it's nice to stretch out.
Actually took me a while also to get used to the counterbalanced engine in my fatboy vs the buzz from my old evo, but even with a couple less ponies, I appreciate the smoother engine.. A sense of "less vibration, meaning less long term wear".. I'm sure some rubber mounted guys out there will dissagree, and I've been told once the bikes get up to speed the rubber mounted engines really smooth out nicely.

I love my deuce too.
I would never trade for a dyna.
I dont know about other dynas but the wide glide is a very smooth comfortable ride. It might shake a litlle at idle but it really smooths out when your running it.
I think its a compromise between the softail and the dynas. The dynas shake at idle but smooth out at speed. The softails run smooth till you hit 60 to 70 then you feel the buzz with them. The balancers can only do so much.
It all depends on what you like.

of course the fxd and street bob are cramped. Throw some forwards on there and then try it. The whole dyna lineup has the same frame. (different rakes) The WG is no more spacious than the FXD or street bob, just different peg placement. (which you can change) I'd trade back to a dyna in a heartbeat from my deluxe if the prices hadn't dropped so much around here.
To say the dyna vibrates is nuts compared to the 88b motor. I'd much rather have the motor rockin in the frame on the rubber mounts at idle and be smooth at hwy speed than have that damn buzzy feeling out on the hwy that the softail's have. Compared to the rubber mounts it feels like you need a 6th gear on the 88B

I beg to differ on all counts....

you guys just ride to the local watering hole or long distance?
Wonder why the eglides don't have the 88B if they're so smooth out on the road?
88B may be great around town but the dynas are WAY smoother out on the hwy.
i've owned dynas, sporties, eglides and the current softy. My experience is that the softy can't touch the dyna out on the hwy vibe wise. (power wise either) The softail is super smooth idling in the hooters parking lot and looks great but....
I guess Breaknbad said it best "it all depends what you like"

You know I keep hearing about the buzz in the softails at 60 or 70 but so far I really don't notice. Then again I came off of a Yamaha 650 that buzzed like he!! at 55 and sounded like it needed another.....
