Default Shocks loosing air

Can the air shocks on my 07 EGU loose air some how other than the fittings at the top? I ask cause I pumped them up to 50# last night and checked this morning and it was at 45#. Got the bike used June last year and this is the first time I had a pump to even be able to add air. They were at 0# so that's why I wanted to check this morning. I would have thought there should be some air in there but nope. I sprayed a dish soap/water solution on the fittings and see nothing. So any place else to look or are the shocks shot?

Could be as simple as the valve, which is just a normal tyre valve, so try replacing that. After that the various fittings can be suspect. You have to bear in mind that the amount of air in these things is very small, so it can sneak out while you're back is turned!

The drop from 50 to 45 overnight could just be because it was cold during the night. Check over a few days, at the same time of day, to see if it changes. Leaks can be difficult to confirm and cure. Next would be to dismantle each fitting in turn, to check closely and ensure all is well.

2012 FLHTC i aired my shocks up to 40 lbs went for a day long ride. went to wash the bike next day removed the bags checked the air pressure it was 20lbs. it seemed to ride a little hard but it was first trip and nothing to compare it to. my three previous bikes were fatboys. i noticed abig dent in both mufflers it looks like the bottom shock mounts hit the mufflersi have the bal of mfg warranty does anyone know if this would be a warranty claim? local h d shop has not gotten back to me for an appointment. need a heads up from someone with similar problem before i get BS from h d shop. thanks

That sounds very strange - the shocks can't extend far enough to hit the mufflers IMHO. Well worth calling by your dealer to talk to them.

What i think it it did was when the suspension compressed after hitting hole or bump or what ever it might have been when there wasn't enough air pressure it caused the shock mounts to hit the mufflers. i don't just don't want to get the usual round around when the dealer or mfg. might have to pay

It would be interesting to see a photo of the dents, so we can get a better idea of the problem. I can't see any way that can happen, but then the Atlantic is between you and me and it is raining hard at present!

Default 2012 Street Glide Shocks Loosing Air

Went to the dealer and they checked my rear shock presure and it was at 16. I have never had it that low. They pumped it up to 32 (for me and my passanger) 2 weeks later it is at about 20 or less. I still have factory warranty with 8000 miles on it. Is there something I need to check.

The max air pressure for my 2008 Electra glide is 35 pounds. If you have the original shocks and you put 50 pounds in a 2007, there is a chance that you may have blown a seal. Also, what are you checking the pressure with? If you use a regular gauge, then you will always lose some pressure when you check it.

Harley shocks use very little air. You need a gauge that doesn't lose any air. That type of gauge comes on the Harley air pump and a few other high quality pumps.

One last thing, the newer Harleys with the new frame have a different suspension and so have different shock pressures.
