bought my first Harley last year, a 2006 Ultra classic. I checked it all out this spring when I got her out for the first time, didn't notice any thing out of the ordinary. last couple of weeks I noticed when I hit a bump, "did not have to be a big one either" It felt like my kick stand was dropping down and hitting the bottom of the bike, last night I checked the air in the shocks, "no air" did not notice this last year, Did, do the air shocks on the classics leak out that quickly? Anybody else have this problem? Thanks.
you shouldnt have any air leaks in your shocks. I have an 01 that has front and rear air adj shocks. I usually check mine befoire each long ride or when i am loaded with luggage bags. I may loose 3-5# in a months time. I chanlk that up to expansion due to the temp.
Check the connnection where the black air line attaches to the shocks and the valve. Use some sopay water to see if there is a leak. First pump the shocks up with air 30# or so on the rear...after 02- 03 models HD did away with the front air adj shocks...you should have only one valve for the rear.
If you have a leak at the red connector, just press the connector in and the tube will come loose. Make sure it is not crimped, loose, etc. Reinsert the same. Press in the red connector and then insert the tube about 3/8 inch. You should not be able to pull the tub eout of the connector with out pressing the red connecor downward. If you can then the connecotr or tube needs repalcement.

The air bladders are also very sensitive to temperature and can cause your air pressure to increase or decrease a couple pounds -- just because of the change in temperature. I've started rides when the temp is 65 or so, and air pressure is 10 lbs. When it gets to mid-day and temps are 80+, the air is up to 14-15 lbs.... Just my observation and experience.....
I live at about 7000 ft elevation, and will be heading out to the left coast (sea level) in a couple of weeks, then back home again, then in another couple of weeks back out to the left coast, then up to the NW, then out to the right coast on Interstate 90, then back home on highway 50. Do I need to check the air pressure during these trips? How often?
If you don't already have HDs little air pump, get one. I carry mine in my bag all the time and when I am out on the road and stopping for the night I sometimes do spot checks. There is very little volume in those shocks and do fluctuate with temps and I would think altitude.
