Default How far can you go with an 88 build

Hey guys let me explain myself, I currently have no motorwork done on my 06 dyna, since i'm not a patient guys I'm kind of wondering if I should go with upgrading my 88 with differents parts instead of stacking up cash and being patient to buy my 120r or 113ci motor.

In other words what can you get out of your 88 at the top of a build like in hp tq, drag racing(what bike can you beat).

Sorry wasn't clear yesterday my question is would I be satisfied with an 88 build ( i'm looking to pop wheelie sometimes, beat a lot of pretty much stock harley in drag race and maybe some ricerocket.) If I'm able to build a strong 88 who will achieve that or should I start stacking up cash for a 113 or 120

Bore your cylinders to 95", get some headwork, add some cams. Do it one thing at a time if needed. You'll smoke stock Harley's all day long. When all I had was cams I was keeping up with a CVO 110. Now that I avhe a 95" with headwork and a different cam I am sure I could take him due to the handling of my bike. Start with cams (that is what I would do and go from there. I have a set of 88" cylidners and heads sitting here in my office you can have for cheap if you want to bore them and have the heads worked.

I always do one thing at a time as the budget allows. Dyna's are so light that they seem to get much more out of things that a bagger gets a minimal amount of performance from. I was thinking i was going to do a 111 motor but I think that the amount of other things that would need to be changed has made me rethink this. My bike is plenty good as it is. I'll save the $5000 I was going to spend on a motor and buy another bike.

If you split & bore your cases, you can go huge with your motor. You can go 107 with your stock flywheel if you just bore the cases. Lots of power can be made much cheaper than a crate motor.

I'm kind of in a similar mindset as you. I found a set if SE MCR heads (brand new) for cheap. Throwing in a set of ss570 cam. And bolting it all on my stock 96". Should get me in the 90-100 hp/tq range all together for about $1000.
Something cheap, quick and effective. Should hold me over for the best few years so I can start saving up big money for a crate motor.

Also I know people that can clutch up a wheelie on a dyna with stock 88 & 96 motors. So if u practice you should be able to do it no prob even if u did just cams

I am sure I can if I clutch it but i am not a wheelie guy. I wrecked a bike many years ago doing wheelies therefore I do not do them anymore. Oh yeah, I have the Mikuni carb too.
