Default Cutting wires on Fuel Gage

Does anybody know if I cut the wires to the fuel gage on a 2013, will I still get the "miles to reserve" digital info on dash.

Thanks AA

I unplugged the fuel gauge on my 2011 wide glide and it didn't work.

That's what I'm thinking. If I still had the readout I would dump the tank gage and use a dummy cap. Thanks

Don't worry about the "miles to go". If you want to get rid of the gauge just use one of your tripmeters and reset it when you fill up.

Well I hate to dump a useful feature just for the sake of looks. If I didn't have the dash display, I would dump it in a flash because I don't trust the tank gauge. I do like the miles to reserve readout though and will do whatever I can to keep it even if the flush gage cost a little more.

Is their an aftermarket fuel gauge you could run it to? Maybe mount one somewhere out of the way just to keep that readout.

I have often wondered about the miles left thing, is that the miles left until the tank is supposed to be empty or miles left until the reserve starts getting used. I have noticed that when it says "low" and I fill up, I am only putting in around 3.5 gal out of the 4.5 gal the tank is supposed to hold. Anyone know for sure?

It's about as accurate as the gauge which is not very good. I believe the miles to empty is based on the registered remaining amount of fuel and an average mpg equation.

The problem is that there is no "for sure". Since it uses the same sending unit as the gauge, it's just as inaccurate and varies from bike to bike. The only really dependable way is to use the odometer.
