Default Dyna FLD Switchback question...

Hey everyone. I'm new to this site, really enjoyed reading some about ya'lls rides. I just recently bought a new FLD. I need to put some 12 inch mini-apes on it, and am wondering if anybody knows definitively if the stock cables and wires will work, or do I need to lengthen them.

I've seen conflicting posts about it (I'll admit I'm not the most savy when it comes to searching forums). Any insight would be much appreciated.

I am finding that extended ABS brake lines are hard to find, so if not necessary, that'd make life easier.

Wires are long enough for 19" apes. Some say clutch and throttle are long enough. As far as ABS goes, MOCO don't list anything for the FLD, but the FLD uses the same parts are the WideGlide.

These parts (don't have numbers handy) should help you understand what is needed. Unlike the stock brake distribution block, the accessory part has upper hose permanently attached.

Default Just going with 12's...

Thanks for the info. I have a catalog the dealer gave me when I picked the bike up last month, so part numbers are easy...but of course, in that timeless Harley style, it says to obtain length information speak with a authorized HD service advisor. Ha.

Based on what you're saying, I should be golden. Only putting 12" mini apes on this one.

Thanks,

Pat

according to this you would need new throttle and idle cables

I run 14" vars with the stock brake line, everything else I use extended cables.

Default Thanks

Appreciate the heads up. I was hoping that the stock brake line would work for 12". ABS lines can't be found, so must be custom-ordered. Everything else is abundant and readily available.

Finally found ABS brake lines for the FLD. Drag Specialties part DS 1741 - 3790 (+4" in black vinyl).

Was nearly ready to give up. Non-ABS will work, but ABS will not.

Is there any point in asking questions if you don't read the answers.

Harley make extended ABS lines and components, which is what I used to fit 16" apes on my ABS equipped FLD - see picture above. Only Harley only lists the parts for the Wide Glide, which has the same ABS as the FLD - both are dynas.
