Any chance the bike is not using oil but instead experiencing a leak?

Seems like it's my day to thank everyone, going down the list. The top end came out very good after the advice I got here.Heads were a mess, three leaking valve seal and a burnt exhaust valve.Made a rough set of torque plates out of 1"plate,used all thread and pulled them to 60lbs torque,no distortion.New rings, new valve (found a used one)reseated them with all new seals and good to go.Thanks everyone this was a good project for a good man in a bad spot. The party afterwards was great as he had no idea we were doing this.Cant really thank you guy's enough.

I love a happy ending. Kudos to you and the crew; hope the bike runs well with no issues.

Exactly. 1 Qt. every 2000 miles is not excessive. I'd run it until it used about twice that amount. You can buy a lot of oil for the cost of even a budget tear down...
