Default Any of you "Gurus" know anything about "D"'s

looking for real people who know how tune a S&S "D" carb. same as e-g I know. but with no accellator pump, gotta have some tricks!!

That ones an odd duck and not like the E or G it's a very different carb think the old "B" with no accelerator pump and a bigger throat, what size motor you running ? It completely sucks on a stock bike and even with some inches without headwork and big *** cam the low end & mid range tended to sputter and you can't find the right combo of setting & jets most times . That carb likes being run wide open , it's a upper end design for racing app's .

Listen to Twisted, he knows of what he speaks.

I ran a B on a 61" Sporty many moons ago, sucked. It came with it when I bought the basket case, sold it and bought an E. Much better.

If you still want to run it, Thunderjets makes a 3rd circuit for the carb so you can dial in the midrange to be crisp and still get the top end to flow, vs. having to compromise with just the 2 circuits that it comes with stock. It's 75 bucks or so.


S&S Super D (2 1/4" Carburetor) Initial Jetting Settings

Engine Size 88-93 CID 95-Up CID
S&S Super D Idle Mixture 1 1/4 To 1 3/4 Turns
S&S Super D Intermediate Jet .031 To .036
S&S Super D Main Jet .076 To .094

Per the tuning guide from S&S ...

These Are The Jetting Recommendations For Tuning S&S Carburetors For Various Engine Sizes, The Jetting In Your Carburetor Should Fall Somewhere Within The Ranges Indicated Within The Charts For Your Engine Size & Type S&S Carb.. Jet Sizes & Idle Mixture Tuning / Adjustment Will Vary With Different Engine Sizes & Types Of Air Cleaners,& Exhaust, Altitude, Air Pressure & Humidity. There Are No Exact Settings, Only Fine Tuning To Make Your Bike Run Its Best. We Have Created This S&S Carburetor Jetting / Tuning Guide As A Starting Point For Jetting And Proper Tuning Of S&S Carburetors.
