Hey guys new to this bike world but itching to go ......just brought a 2004 sportster but it seems to make a hell of a lot noise for bottom end , almost like you can hear all the workings over the noise of the engine . Is this normal .......? Glad of any help ....thanks

Hang on a minute till I cut mine off so I can hear what you say!? HA. They can be a little noise. You truly need a two ear stethoscope and probe around on engine. A steady whirr is fine. Odd crunching, banging, random growel is bad..

First place I would look is the primary chain adjuster. Too loose, worn adjuster shoe, or low oil in there will make that noise.

Here is where the primary chain is and how it's adjusted, just check what yours should be adjusted to, and I believe this guy speaks your language.

Sure way to check to see if something is about to fail is have an oil analysis done.
Or put loud mufflers on to make the engine clatter harder to hear.

Look for simple stuff like loose parts or any stupid gay chrome cover for something that doesn't need a cover. I had a rattling noise that sounded like change in a pocket being swished around... turned out to be a stupid chrome cover. Tightened it up and no more rattle.
