Default Helping along the way....

So I am jamming down the road minding my own business when up ahead I see a bike on the side of the road.... As I got closer I find a young feller standing next to a really cool bobbed out 73 Sportster and when I asked what was up he said "damn thing is running like sh%t and can't figure it out. So asked for symptoms which lead to carb issues and we began the initial check and being bobbed he had no place to carry tools not wanting extra...om....baggage. Got out my roll and pulled the air cleaner first.... was covered with so much dirt that the K&N filter looked like it was covered in mud, well guess dirt with filter oil is mud.....

Frog bar and Grill was a mile back so I left him with his bike and went to the bar drank a beer and washed that filter with dish soap and a hose. Took a quart of oil from my bags and gave it a light coat telling him to repeat wash and use filter oil when he got home. Bike fired 2nd kick and was a strong sounding critter. Had a 73 sporty once and it kept my kicking leg in 24/7 pain, but nother time.

I went my way and he went his a little red in the face, but also more knowledgeable about trouble shooting and cleaning his air filter with EACH OIL CHANGE!

Tried to pay me he did and just told him I learned some crap same way.... Told him Joey to join this place we'll see if he shows up. Good Kid.

Good for you for getting it going.Do you think he ever changes his oil based on the way the filter looked?

Hard to say really, sure hope so. I did tell him I always change oil at 2 to 3K miles and look over stuff like air cleaner (I clean and oil mine), plugs, etc.... Liked the kid and think he will learn, he was pretty bummed he missed the fact that his beloved iron head was gasping for air

Good you stopped.
I would have just pulled the filter off, started the bike and sent him on his way. He could clean it when he got home.

Good for you but did you not tell him about the K&N filter cleaning kit?

At least your stop wasn't in vain. Seems like everytime I stop now, it's someone just making a call. On the side of the HIGHWAY??? STOP IT!
