Good MPG fuel figures from last week's trip
Just spent five pleasant days on the road and wanted to share what I think are pretty good mileage numbers. Better than I expected and better than I'd get on my Honda VFR800 sport tourer.
Stats from 5 of 6 fill-ups I recorded... avg 45.5 mpg (5.2 l/100km), 252 miles/tank (405 km/tank)
liters, km, l/100km, mpg
13.53, 260, 5.20, 45.2
17.46, 342, 5.10, 46.1
15.35, 299, 5.13, 45.8
10.66, 209, 5.10, 46.1
15.39, 290, 5.31, 44.3
Route was all around southern British Columbia, so good amount of twisties and climbing and generally cruising speeds below 65 mph (105 km/h). One-up, with loaded bags plus seat duffle. 2012 FLHR 103 Stage 1.
Cheers.

Those are good figures. I'm usually happy with 5,5 liter with my '09 Road King, but on my last tour in January (in our summer) got it down to 5,2.
But yes, the bikes seem to love 55 mph for cruising.

That's pretty darn good. I always average 44-46 on my 2002 wide glide with a carb. Considering your pushing a screen through the wind and loaded down that's pretty good for a king. Makes for some cheap traveling and lots of fun

I have noticed that for some reason I always get better mileage on long trips. Rode 2 up over 2000 miles on a trip in June. Bike was loaded for bear, most likely over max weight and I averaged better than 43 mpg for the trip.
Day riding, 1 up lightly loaded, even on the highway I am lucky if I pull 38 mpg...

The funny thing is I look forward to using big old 6th gear (I find it peaceful and also assume it brings better mileage) but the speeds of the roads didn't allow for it much.
So I wonder... If I was averaging 75 mph more than 60 mph then sure I would have been using 6th gear more but then I also would have been pushing through a ton more fuel-sucking wind resistance so maybe it's a wash.

That is pretty good ,I just checked my 13 Street Glide and got 42.65 mpg and that is about 50/50 highway and local. I do not baby it. I was surprised it was better than my 09 Fat Boy but that has motor work .

On steady 50-60mph rides I get just a touch over 45mpg after correcting for speedo error...which is .95% on mine. On the daily back and forth to work I get just a touch better than 41mpg after correcting for the speedo error.
