Ironhead Oil Drain hole stripped Question

RE: Ironhead Oil Drain hole stripped Question
Forget it! If you have removed the plug only one time it is history. You are not going to be able to undo the damage you have already done. That crankcase material is at most 3/8 inch thick of very crummy cast aluminum alloy material.......almost like pot metal.
Inside the crankcase sits the flywheel assembly about another 1/4 to 3/8 inch away from the plug. You strip that plug and you are screwed...........pg

75xlch transmission plug stripped
On the same note.. i just acquired a 75 xlch in great shape.. my problem is I noticed oil leaking from the transmission side.. to find it was coming from the transmission drain plug. When I went to tighten it the plug just spins around and I cannot get it out!
does anyone have any idea on what i should do besides splitting the damm cases?
Thanks

First welcome to the site
second this thread it 5 or 6 years old --- you will need to start a new thread for Just your issue - that is the way its done and your thread will get the attention it needs to help you out
the plug in the center of the gear box can be with drawn with a small vise grips pull down while turning - you can use an automotive rubber repair plug ( boot ) for the rest of the riding season -- or remove the trans and install a helicoil i prefer a time sert it never strips or comes loose again - jz

On the theme of crankcase plugs...
Was riding my 75 FLH a few weeks back and started feeling warm air on my shin. Stopped and had a look, found my timing plug was gone. Got a replacement but it just pushes in, threads are gone. I'm looking at a time-sert to fix it, just wondering, do I need to split the crankcase to keep cuttings out or can I somehow flush oil out the bottom to clear things after I tap?
Thanks

Look closely in the hole. You should see that there are two threads deeper in there that are not stripped. You can get an after market plug that is two threads longer than the stock plug. Put it in there carefully with some blue locktite and it will last forever. You can even remove/re-install it when needed.
