looking for advice on what to do to mufflers
Ive got a pair of chrome tailgunner mufflers with black rotating barrells. Ive had them now for almost two years, and the chrome is pitted and flaked off and they are rusting. I called the company after I had them appx 1 1/2 years about the poor quality of the chrome and I was told that they only have a 1 year warranty by a company rep. The quality of chrome plating is by far the worst that I have ever seen. Ive had Dynopower mufflers, Hooker Trouble makers, Rinehart true duals and cycle shack mufflers and NONE have pitteted and flaked.
So,.... now to my question,.... Ive considered either having them rechromed or powder coated, but since there is no quality plater or coaters in my area that the cost after shipping,.... it looks like it would be less expensive to just throw the tailgunners in the trash and buy new mufflers. Any suggestions of what might be the best route to take?

I'm not sure of the exact engine temp,..... All I have is the standard HD stage I dealer download with a HD high flow a/c. On my 07 Ultra Classic I had a stage II 103" kit with Rinehart true duals that looked like new after 3 years. Not sure what the exact problem is,...... There isnt any discoloration,... it's all rust from the pits and flaking of the chrome. Over the years,.... I've had several different brands of pipes/mufflers over the years and never encountered this. The tell tale sign that I dont think this is a tune/heat related issue is that my Vance and Hines true dual header pipes look like new. I even removed the heat shields and the bare pipes look pretty good too. So,..... i'm not sure what the problem is. My honest guess is poor quality of chrome. I went by a couple indy bike shops lately and was told they have seen very similar problems with the chrome quality on Tailgunner exhausts.

the main issue that i see is the pitting on the metal... i am really not sure how good of a overall finish could be achieved on those mufflers due to that. of course we are more than willing to give it a run and see what we can do on them, but when you have bad rust and pitting that tends to come up into the powder even if you blast, outgass, and primer... sad to see that in a chrome product.
