Countershaft Bearing Removal 06 RG
I am rebuilding my transmission now with the Baker DD6 that I just got back from Baker.
There was a new countershaft bearing included in the kit I received. I'm looking in the manual and there is no mention of the bearing or how to remove or install it. I tried tapping it with a hammer to see if it was a light press fitting but no movement.
How is this bearing supposed to be removed and in which direction? into the tranny or out the left side?
The picture below shows the left side of the bearing with the new bearing placed below it.

Hey Ken, it can be pressed in either direction but in to the case will be easier because you have more surface area. Here is a picture of the Jims tool:
You could order one or get crafty head to the hardware and make your own. Basically just need a plate to screw to the case with a threaded hole, a long screw to fit the hole, at least a 1/2 diameter screw, and then something that is close to the size of the bearing that the screw can push on.

Oh and after you install the new one, put some assembly lube in it before you slide the gear set in. The Harley manual does not show it as a serviceable part, I guess they think it will last forever or they want you to buy a new case when it goes bad. We never used to include them in the kits but these 5 speeds are getting some miles on them now and we really think they should be replaced when doing a gear set change.

Mark, I made a tool similar to what you have in the picture here. The plate is held on by two screws that thread into the tranny case. The top bolt is a little smaller than the bottom. I'm using the Mainshaft Bearing Inner Race Remover tool as the pressing part of the tool. The counter shaft bearing isn't moving but I'm getting this crinkling sound like metal is about to break. Is that normal?
