Why was there not a problem on 88s? Ya some came loose, but it seems to be more of an issue now. My theory is vibrations from the primary chain tensioner being to tight, and guys riding low RPMs. Once I change mine to Hayden, I could ride lower RPMs. Which it me is mid 2k, unless coasting through town. Some guys I think ride really low.

It is a common-place feature of many everyday things, nothing to do with either Harley or dealers, just considered these days to be good practice. Our brake rotors and rear pulley use similar screws, probably other features around our bikes. That's one reason why some of us keep prompting owners to buy a factory service manual when servicing their bikes!

My manual for my 01, states to re-use it. That is why I know to use red loctite, because the manual calls out for it. If you buy a new comp bolt it will come with locktite on it. Do not add, follow the manual.

07 manual has you using new bolt. Different style too.

Funny 01s, don't seem to have the problems tht the 6 speeds do, with comp nuts. I suspect 88s same or similar to Evos.

Damn, the riders on this site make me feel old.
