I have had a small leak out the bottom corner of my primary cover since buying my bike a few months ago. I finally decided to fix the leak today with the new primary cover gasket kit I got. Everything went well but when I was torqueing the bolts down on the cover one of them stripped. I was using the torque value specified in the manual which is only 80-110 inch lbs, so not sure why it happened.
Any way its one of the upper bolts above the primary oil level do you think it will be OK? I havent run it yet, but will tomorrow. I aso locktite all the bolts because I was always finding them loose.
If it does end up leaking how would I fix this? Do I tap/thread the hole larger and use a matching larger bolt or is there another way?
i had this happen to me on my 06 wide glide. forgive my ignorance on what they're called - but i bought these reverse threaded screws, and used one that was thinner than the diameter of the bolt that i stripped, and screwed it into the bolt. it provided enough grip to back the stripped bolt out. i picked it up from lowes. Someone will be able to chime in and tell you exactly what to pick up, but it cost me about $11.
