99 Sportster transmission leak
My daughter bought a 99 883 sportster with a bad transmission/ primary fluid leak. We really can't tell wher it's coming from. I suspect the seal behind the final drive pulley. Has anyone had experience with fix a leak pour into the transmission products? Has anyone had transmission leaks wit 90's model sportsters? Is it common to develop a leak between the case halves? Any help would be appreciated. 07Dynaglide

First off are we talking leaking puddles, seepage or wet areas or drip spots. what area of the bike is it ending up near. The trans vent hose would puke fluid back of trans if routed wrong I remember.
The front area under the oilfilter where the cases meet together at the seam has weeped on my 96 sporty for years. I just shoot it with braake cleaner a few times during the season to clean it off.
Please give us more info to work with.
Check out www.sportster.org for info about sportys. This form has been around since 1996 and has most likely more knowledge to help you.

The transmission/primary almost went dry on a 85 mile ride .When the bike stopped about 25 drops of trans, fluid mostle under the front pully and swing arm area. we cleaned it up and started it, and no leaking at idle. it's definitly red tranny fluid and it's gushing when ridden at freeway speed. Thank you for your help. 07Dynaglide
