Shifter shaft splines stripped, heel/toe loose.
Hi,
Just picked up my first touring Harley a '00 Electra, after having 3 sportsters. So far love the ride.
Noticed my heel/toe shift levers are both loose. The linkage connecting shift shaft to the trans is solid. Seems like the shaft splines were stripped by prev. owner.
Looked all around on the web, everybody seems to say the inner primary needs to come off. Looks like I can just pop a screw off "back" side of shaft where linkage connects, and the whole shaft will slide out. Is this right? Is it just new models that the inner needs to be removed?

Nevermind. Bought shifter shaft, $17 at the dealer. New shift lever, took screw off back side of shift shaft, linkage came right off. Took heel / toe shift levers off, shift shaft slid right out with rubber bushing. Slid new one in, took all of 5 mins. Way easier than the newer models apparently.
