Shift lever Shaft
I managed to break the end off the shaft that hold the toe/heel shift levers tonite. the toe shifter stripped out and dropped down resting on the lower, when I tried to pull it back up, it jammed. Unable to get to the allen bolt, so put a bar under the shifter lever and tried to work it up enough to get in 1st or 2nd gear(was stuck in fifth). Guess I am stronger that I look, it snapped off leaving just enough to get the heel shifter on and the bike the rest of the way home. My question is: how hard is it to install a new shaft? I am going to replace the lever or shaft that goes into the tranny real soon. I guess a new shift lever is in order also, sure don't make Harley's like they used to...LOL..Any help appreciated.....

i just did mine yesterday, only because there was a lot of play in it (25K miles on an '05). Get a new shaft and also I'd suggest getting a new rubber spacer bushing too. That's what I did and that heel/toe shaft assembly is now tighter than a nun's ***! Oops...bad analogy..but you get the picture! The shaft is about $17.00....

Thanks for the info. I called a dealer today and got the cost on the shaft at 17.21 and the shift lever at 42.00 . Will go tomorrow and pick up the shaft, but will get a lever off ebay or at a independent shop.

Repair done
Well, I went up to Lake Ozark Harley to day and got the new shaft, looked at the chrome spacer but decided against the HD one. Stopped at the Ace Hdwe and checked out the boxes of speciality items in fastners and low and behold they had an assortment of chrome spacers, that just fit the OD of the shaft, bought 3 different sizes for under 10.00 and got home and put the shaft in with the spacers until I got it the way I wanted it. I put the heel shifter on flush with the end of the shaft and added spacers until it rested against the black rubber spacer. Put the shifter rod lever back on and tightened everything up. Seems to be ok, will ride it tomorrow to work and see. But am taking a bunch of tools with me...LOL...
