Removing heel shifter - got a question

My toe shift lever is stripped - the shaft is still good - so, rather than pay for a new shift lever and for a cheap temporary fix I removed the toe shift lever and moved the heel shift lever in its place - BUT, this poses a problem: the space between the shift lever and the shaft housing is too great now and so the shaft moves left to right way too much - can I just add another spacer to fill the gap or is there a longer spacer for my application?

there are spacers available for this common modification.

or the cheap guy says, take your worn lever and cut the shifter part of it off and use the collar as the spacer

The spacer is cheap enough and they make plain and fancy.....plain worked for me.

Thanks all! If I would've looked at it harder I would've remembered that the toe shift lever was the inner and the heel lever was the outer - so, in putting the lever closer to the housing rather than further, the spacer fits and all is good.
