Default 1975 FLH 2 piece handlebar upgrade

Love the HD forums. Helping a friend who picked up a 1975 FLH with sidecar to put it back on road. He wants new bars and upon dis-assembly the bars are a two piece setup which I do remember working on back in the 70's. He would like more modern one piece bar setup. Has anyone converted one of these and is it as simple as buying new risers and top clamps and just bolting it on? Any advice/help would be appreciated. I had a bunch of old risers etc around and junked them during a garage purge. Thank.

You're on the right track. Replace the risers to the one piece style. The only problem I see is finding a set that will allow you to use the aluminum top cover to hide them, if that is a concern.

Yes, it is that simple. I just did the same thing on my '77 FLH. I used '04 Softail risers since they are only 1" tall. Then I used a top clamp from a late model bagger because it's also low pro and 1 piece. Then I found a riser cover from an early 90s road king. I think it had a -92 part number but it bolted down and was taller to cover the new risers/top clamp/bars.

I can take pics of my setup if it would help.

Why not find the bars you want, cut inside both knurls and mount with original riser?
Use original cover as well!

1" risers and plain top clamp will work with the stock cover.
