Default 1st 1000 mile Service

On this first 1000 mile service my dealers want 350 bucks for a basic oil change i think that's crap myself. I have always done all my repairs an manitance is it true that HD can void the warranty if the first service isn't performed by them. I got ripped off by Honda in the same way ??? I just may suck it up and document all my work and even get service manual and save all my receipts . What did you guys do on this matter.

I let them do mine because I don't have the tools to do it. And when I did do my own stuff, it was in the 70s when bikes were simple.

Yes, do it yourself and save all your receipts, it will not void your warranty if you have everything documented.
The last time my bike was at the dealer is when I took delivery.

Do you even read the manual? If you want to simply change the oils and assume that everything else is properly torqued and lubricated have at it.
Besides, first post to bitch? TROLL!

There is more than just an oil change when the first service is performed.

The reason why warranty issues have been denied when the dealer didn't do the service is because the dealer would have caught a small issue and fixed it before it became a major issue from neglect.

First I will say that just because first post is asking about the 1000 mile service, and not being about the price does not make someone a troll. Some folks like to throw that around a bit too much....

Anyhow. With my last new bike I let them do the 1k service. This hopefully ensures it is done properly, and it is certainly well documented. After that I did my own. I have another new bike coming this spring, and will do the exact same thing. It's your bike and your call, but I would rather the "professionals" handle that oh so very important (slight sarcasm) 1000 mile service.

When I bought my first bike, my old dealer threw in the 1000 mi service for free. I went to a new dealer for my Slim, and they are giving me a break on installing Stage 1 upgrades when I take it in for it's 1000.

I can do basic stuff (change oil, replace plugs and wires, swap out slip ons, etc.), but if I needed something done like electrical or brakes, I'll just take it in to the dealer.

Critical fastener check is, IMO, the main part of this first service.

Good luck in your decision.
