So, I changed my fluids at 900mi (all 3 holes) and nothing else. The bikeis now sitting at almost 3000 miles and going back in for another fluid change. Is it advantageous to do a 3000 mile service? More so, is detrimental if I don't? I dont feel like dropping $300+ for the dealership to tighten bolts.

 

When was using the HD dinosaur oil, I changed the engine oil ever 2500 miles and the tranny and clutch/chain case ever 5000 miles. Now with SYN3, the factory suggests 5000 for the engine and every 10K for the other two cavities.

 

To be clear, I didn't do any of the other items recommended at 1000 miles (tightening stuff, etc.) Is that detrimental?

 

Is that detrimental? Only if something falls off.

 

I would think you should check everything.

 

I've got 8,800+ miles on my '06 and other than lube changes I've had nothing come loose or fall off...spend $50.00 on a service manual and inspect the bike yourself...and keep the other $250.00 in your wallet.

 

5000 for the engine and every 10K for the other two cavities. Amsol, Bell-ray, andmotor factory. I did pay to have the steering bearing service at 15000 miles

 

I'm still on the fence on synthetics- (don't know why other than wanted to wait 'till 2500) and have HD syn in the primary and gearbox, dino in the engine. I've got 1650 miles on it, just having the 1000mi. service done recently, and I'm finally going to Mobile 1 in primary and engine, 75w90 Mobile gearsaver in gearbox- all at 2500 miles. Cannot find Amsoil anywhere locally, but I'd still prefer Mobile 1 anyway. Really think you can go 5000mi. on services??? Just wonder if anyone has had Mobile 1 anylized at 5000. Properties have to be the same if not better that HD360 at 2500mi. I'd think?!!

 

Buy a manual and do the service yourself, save the $. I think it is important to do the safety checks recommended ,it doesn't take long to check and torque a few fasteners,on two wheels you don't really want to have anything come loose or fall off at mph !
