What size rim should I/can I use to run a 200 rear tire?? I have a 2003 deuce on a 160 currently.

6" wide, IIRC. I have a 17x6 (which measures 6.4" lip to lip as a true measurement) Softial Custom rim with a Dunlop 200 American Elite. Keep in mind this is not just a basic rim swap. I did 90% of this mod on my own before my Indie guy came over to help (they make house calls!).

If you're not using a wheel with a definite lip like a spoke wheel, you may have to shave the back portion of the rear break caliper tab down for clearance. If your not running the bike at stock height, you're going to have to shave down inner strut braces or they will contact the tire. If you're slammed, there's more shaving that will have to be done or you will rub. I've probably lost 1/8-3/16 of the left side of my tire due to the fact that I don't want to take the rear apart and get it modified to ride slammed until the weather cools off. You're also either going to have to shave down the stock pulley for some very tight tolerances or purchase a thinner pulley and belt. Those are expensive.
I have a build thread around here with all kinds of photos and what not, it's here:
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...a-tribute.html

It was a huge pain in the *** but fun doing it all at the same time. The finished product looks so much better than the stock wheel.

Ok thx dude.. My ultimate plan is to do a heartland kit obviously with air ride suspension because without it it looks like **** the way the tire sits so far from the fender.. I hate the look of the mag wheel. Does not match the rest of the chrome. Maybe for now just find a stock 16 wire wheel and install it with a new tire since deuces decided to be different with a 17" rim. I got big plans for this bike.. Gonna look sick.. Slammed, wide rear tire, 14" apes maybe different gas tank. I can picture it already.. If you see a stock spoke wheel around here let me know.. Thanks..

I like the look, that's why I stuck with a Softail Custom wheel that's nearly solid. Just powder coating most everything black because I don't like chrome.

Or you can do an 18x5.5 with a 200 tire.

This is what I have on my Deuce, an 18X5.5 but I have a 180 on it. I'm not sure, I have been told yes and no, a 200 will fit a Deuce without some modification.

To fit the 200 you need a narrower belt pulley (70x3/4") and belt and to remove the gold pieces under the fender. The Avon Cobra 200 fits better as it is a little narrower than the Metzeler 200.

The gold pieces = inner fender braces. Does this compromise the stability of the fender when riding with a passenger? I shave the wire holding portions on mine so there's nothing to rub. The only part that rubs on my Dunlop is the bolts sticking on from the braces, which I'm going to fix by shaving them down and the plastic that holds the wires to the turn signals and rear tail light, which I'm going to replace with a nearly flush piece of sheet metal.

I would go with a 6" or 6.5" but not narrower. Keep in mind, fitting it on a narrower wheel while possible also alter the contact profile with the road & that is never desirable.
