Default Possibly trading in my Forty Eight for a wide glide

I saw a beautiful wide glide, nicely customized by the previous owner. I am gonna go see about trading in my Forty Eight for this 2011 Wide Glide. Anyone have any tips, or experiences with trading in?

remove as much aftermarket parts as you can, on trade ins they are pretty worthless.

Make certain you ride it a while first, I bought a new RC in 07 and I did't like it much compared to the Sporty way to big, heavy and clunky and oh my god it has like riding on top of an oven even after a total retune with a Race Tuner new cam new exhaust and heat shields. I sold it and was glad I kept my Sporty.

You may want to consider selling it outright. Someone may appreciate what you did to it and you can then have better leverage on the next bike.

Like MikeZ said, sell it outright. The stealer will take you one way or the other. They can get real tricky on the paper work. I would buy a Wide Glide in a second if I could afford another 4 years of payments, I'll never trade my 08 1200C for one.

The nice part about trading vs selling sporty is on trade in you will only pay sales tax on the difference you owe on the new bike, which can be substantial compared to paying tax on full price of new to you bike.

I would first not even mention you are considering trading for the used wide glide. I would act like you are paying cash and talk them down on price, then when you got the wide glide on a price you like bring in your idea of a trade in.

My dealer did me solid on my trade in of my dyna fatbob for a Road Glide Custom, I traded it in 1 year on the dot of when I bought the fatbob new and I told him no way am I going to bend over I just bought a new bike with stage 1 365 days ago you need to work with me on trade so it makes sense and they did. Tried that at a dealer closer to my house originally and they basically offended me with their trade in value offer, so shop around to a few diff dealers. They arent all stealers.

My advice is, don't do it!
