It doesn't remind me at all of what they used to look like at all!
Yeah ok I'll date myself here but I LOVED my 94 Wide Glide, I loved the lines and loved the day I first lays on it.
In the last issues of Easy Riders I found this in the Reader's Ride section and it took me back to when the Wide Glide was a damn cool lookin bike!
***OK the purple is a bit much but the lines are right on the money!***
I like the new Wide Glide and I like the old Wide Glide ... doesn't seem like they should be sharing the same name, though (as the new one has so many major stylistic changes) ...
I never cared for the bobtail fender much ... but, it does look right on the old Wide Glide ...
I like the newer ones, but I really like the older bobtail fenders. I wish they would have kept that fender and accentuated the flair on them even more. The new straight bobtail that's on the fatbobs, doesn't do it for me..
Didn't really like the first gen wide glide but absolutely love the second gen. I think that the two bikes are different enough that they should not be sharing the same name. Maybe Cool Glide for second gen and wide glide for the first.
They both have their good points. I think the rear fender on the old ones look just like the rear fenders on the early '80's Kawasaki LTD's. Looked good on them, not on the Glide.
The new Wide Glide definitely misses what the bike was originally designed to be - styled from 70's style choppers.
The one in your pics ... great lines that get totally screwed up by the apes ... the bike is supposed to be long and low. If you need somewhere to put up a clothes line, stick some poles in the ground.
About the only thing I like on the newer models is the drag bars. They definitely help with the long and low idea. Drag bars and a solo seat on an old style WG? Hell Yeah!!!!
I as well never cared for the bobtail fender. I do like the new ones. For safety I wish the new ones had more than just the two turn signal light as stop lights.
