Shut off drip

Shut off drip
I have an issue with my fuel shutoff on my 03 sporty. when I turn the fuel on I get a drip out of what I think must be an overflow or something coming right out of the bottom of the shutoff it's self. I have let it sit for a while (2 months)but I've started it about once every two weeks. My battery went dead and I might have flooded it before I put in the new one but I ran it down the street for about 5-10 minutes and still drips.
Thanx for any help.

More than likely your float is sticking. It's in the bowl of the carb. First of all, if it's got gas from last year in it, drain it. Second, get some seafoam and a new tank of gas. The best way to clean out the fuel bowl and get the float unstuck is take the bowl off the carb and spray everything, but the rubber gasket, down with carb cleaner, and check the condition of the float needle. Make sure the rubber on top of the needle is in good shape, no cracks, or rings around it. Before removing the bowl though, try tapping on the side of the fuel bowl with the new gas on, and see what happens. Until you have time to mess with it, you can run it with your gas about a 1/4 of the way on, and it might not leak

The hole he is refering to is the vent hole for the diaphram, the diaphram probably has a hole in it and will need replaced. The bike is probably runnng a little rich because it is sucking gas through the vacuum line also.
