I am getting my first harley today, a sportster 1200, 2002 model, i really like the looks of it but looking at some from private parties before this a few of them had some fat tanks on them, wider with dual caps, is this something i can get for the sportster? the dealer mentioned the newer sportster tanks that were a little bigger, but i liked the bigger ones that made it look like a totally different bike
where is a good place to get something like this? just through the dealer?

It also depends on the look you prefer. I like the sportster tank. They do offer a King tank that holds like 3.2 gal compared to the 2.5. I saw a 69 with an AMEN frame and it had a big tank but with only one cap. I liked it. J&P and other outfits make something like a 4 gal. tank with a dash if thats your style. I just like narrow small tanks. Good luck.

looking again today it does look pretty nice, one reason i was thinking of getting a new tank was that the paint was damaged, but i realized it isnt the paint it is just the decal, so i can just replace that and be fine
i guess i'll see if i end up filling it up too much and want a larger tank, i really like the look of the wider tank as well, but since it isnt damaged like i thought then my money has to first go toward a luggage bag or something, i hate having no storage
Look on Ebay,Dennis Kirk,J+P Cycles, etc.Lots of styles to choose from.I have a stetched tank with dual caps from Drag Specialties. It was already on the bike when I bought it,but I think you have to relocate the ignition.Don't worry, they make a kit for that.Fuel capacity is about 4 gallons.I think my tank looks better than the 4 gallon tanks on the newer Sportsters.Just MY opinion!
