I think its always the same question. How long am i going to keep this bike?
If you are, do the upgrade its worth it. If not, put in tensioners and springs and forget about it.

Even if I decided not to keep the bike, wouldn't I be able to tack on a little more to my asking price if I had the upgrade done? Seems like it would be a good selling point, especially if I can produce the work order and receipt for having it done.

I have a pretty good relationship with the guys at my local HD. I think I'll just let them crack it open and make the call once they can inspect everything. If it needs the upgrade, so be it. Otherwise I'll probably just do the shoes and adjustable rods. Then I'll put the money I was going to spend towards some slip-ons and new apes.

I am looking at the same project soon...I will go with gear drive if the crank runout allows it. The mechanic won't know that until he opens it up. So waiting for parts will delay the deal a couple of days...as long as I'm in there, I will want a new cam plate, oil pump, cams that will increase low to mid RPM torque, new high quality lifters, and adjustable pushrods...undoubtedly a tuner will be required to handle the cams.

I don't consider those things 'extras'...As long as I'm having the deed done, needs to be done right.
