Also, Cruise is standard but ABS is not. You also get the Heritage style bars.

The Rushmore Road Kings don't have a Hydraulic clutch. All 3 years seem about the same. Pick your favorite color and enjoy the ride. Or get a used 2009 and up and use the savings to mod the suspension and motor and ???

The fact is inside the Speedo where you have to toggle. Wheras the police version has a separate gauge for tach and speedo

I bought a low mileage 2014 Road King and I'm very happy with it. The only options to consider are: color, wheel/tire upgrade (spokes, whitewalls), security and ABS. Cruise is standard.

My son and I did a 200 mile loop around Lake Hugh's coming through the San Gabriel mountains on my '13 Sporty 72. Nice cool morning that ended in 100 degree heat by noon. Nice breakfast. Nice ride. Stock suspension the only real deficit to that bike (now that it has stage 1 and a better seat). Then headed over to the dealer.

The '08 was priced too high.
Rode a '15 Morocco Gold Pearl demo bike with 900 miles on it. Must have been demoed pretty hard as it felt a bit rattly. Otherwise very nice....super comfy. Not my color, and deal was not enough to consider over brand new or older used.
Saw a beautiful White and Turquoise two tone 2016...very nice in person...Good price. Tempted....

I'd have to make some room in the garage and even after the demo ride I'm not sure what I'd want to give up for certain...

'13 Sportster 72...just a blast and it's a sporty...kinda perfect...
'09 Fat Bob....sig pic....PROBABLY MY MOST LIKELY CHOICE, but it's the bike I've made my own the most...and my kids love it...
'92 FXR.....duh....don't think so....

4th bike will not happen....3 is already pushing it....

I really love the king, and have toured like crazy over the years...much of it on smaller bikes....but these days most of all I'm commuting and taking day rides into the mountains. King is heavy enough I'd likely not want to run it around in traffic and town errands if I had a choice.

I hoped the demo ride would just clear up everything but it left me in limbo...partly because I think the demo bike didn't grab me. I've ridden Kings before and liked them more...Older ones...hmmmmm. Was the demo in poor shape or is it the nature of the newer models? Kinda rattled...Trans didn't seem as smooth...good power, but I'm not sure...

Maybe I'm schizo because I love the rawness of my other bikes. Maybe I can't handle how smooth the king is (even with the rattles)? YErggg....

Gonna say the Turquoise and White was a real knockout in person and I'm still daydreaming about it today. Easily the 2016 color I'd choose...for earlier models I like last years CVO in orange and black, but not in the budget...otherwise I think 2010 has the color combos I like best.

Now just gotta confirm its the right model for me which I expected the demo to sort out...but didn't 100%. Thanks for all the info guys. It gave me some valuable perspective before going in person.

I just recently, as in Saturday, bought a Road King. I also have two other bikes I simply won't part with.

That said, I bought used. Found a 2011 with 3,123 miles on it. It's a Road King Classic, but the previous owner had matching hard bags put on. It also has the 103 Power Pack, so it has security, ABS, and cruise.

It's a blank canvas for me to start over with and really enjoy making my own and eventually adding the miles onto. Right now it doesn't feel like mine at all because it's not as comfortable as my others - I've got some work to do.

The RK is a perfect bagger with that stripped down look of no fairing. It's so adaptable to varying needs, it's hard to beat its value.

Don't be hasty. Look around - the right deal is out there.

Good luck!

Ha! Congrats on the new addition. I think you're right about use as good option and I just have to keep my eyes open if I don't want to sacrifice a bike I already love (especially ones that are paid off!). Love your sig pic too. Enjoy the king.
