For inexplicable personal reasons I am being sorely tempted to buy a Road King...ok, not so mysterious....got an itch I can't seem to scratch and the King might be the answer. I know used is a great option and I will explore it, but were I so inclined to sign on the dotted line for a new one...
What are the significant model changes across these years and in the brain trust's opinion any important improvements? Yes I could do a lot of Internet research so pardon my laziness...it would all sound like a better question when we were done with work in a few hours cracking a beer or a soda pop on the porch...
So what do you think about these new production years?
If you are going to do it, used, look for a low mile 2014. Maybe check out H-D rental sales,
you may find a 2015 in good shape. I would say nothing older then an 2007 or 2008.
Road King's have not changed much over the years, until 07 when they got the
96 inch engine and the 6 speed. In 08 RK's got a 6 gallon fuel tank, and throttle
by wire, in 09 a new frame. I think the Rushmore RK's now have cruise control,
and the newer suspension & upgrades. Good Luck & Ride Safe
Not many differences between the 14 -16 Road Kings. Cruise control was an option prior to '14, but became standard with the Rushmore bikes. So basically, color options.
I just went from an 07 police bike it was a 103 6 speed put 63,000 on it and it was a great bike. Now my 16 has ABS,which is a big plus, cruise, and the Rushmore 103 has hotter cams than the other 103. The wide rear tire and new frame, better suspension, the new style front end.. I guess you could go on and on.. The 16 is a very nice ride . Good luck .

Thanks guys! This is great info. One other option appeared which is a low mile 2008. I know it's in great running order. How big a difference does the '09 frame redesign and later steering head make Captain Itch going from your '07 to the '16? Motor and suspension I can always tweak, frame not so much...

For me going from the 07 to the 16 is Night and Day.. It is like they finally used a computer to help design a bike.. This is my 8th Harley so I have been on a few ..
