I had a K-N and got tired of the oil barfing, so I just installed a new Fuel Moto AC last week. It uses an SE backplate and some custom parts, but most notably channels the breather oil into the velocity stack, which is sucked into the throttle body. No more barfing or oil smell on a long ride. He uses a cleanable element unlike the SE, and the kit is $129. I'll be writing this up soon.
That's funny - I was just going to post the same question. i took the air filter cover off today, to check the filter (even though the bike has only 2,000 miles on), and I too noticed that the back of the air filter housing was coated with a light film of oil, to which all the dust clung. I took out the filter, but there was no oil in it, just a few drops on the frame. \\;I will keep an eye on it, to make sure it doesn't get any worse.
