Default 02 roadking transmission shift lever

I have a 2002 RK with 19,000 miles..My rear transmission shift lever is loose and has alot of play. I have tried to tighten down the 1/4" allen head bolt but does not seem to get any tighter. Does this mean that the teeth are automaticly stripped where it connects to the shaft? Is there a fix for this that does not require taking off the inner primary cover? I remember reading a post awhile back where a guy put on a aftermarket transmission shift lever that had maybe 2 bolts tightening it onto the shaft instead of one 1/4" allen head bolt? My main question is can any of this problem be fixed without taking off the inner primary cover?

u can try and use a hardened bolt and a little extra torque or its time to tear it down.

There is a company called Better Lever, betterlever.com, they make a replacement that can be installed without removing the covers, about $160 with good instructions. To remove the covers, install a new shifting paw, lever and seals it cost about $650. I found out about them after I had mine done. If you do a search on this forum under transmissions I think you will find additional info. Cheers

That Betterlever sure is pricey but clamps much better than the stock one.
