Noise on Sidedstand Only. Need opinions!!
Hi everyone,
My good friend has a 2002 Road King 107K miles (very well taken care of). He experiences a clanging type noise only when on the kickstand. He says it kinda sounds like a shaken spray can. My thoughts are maybe jackshaft, loose primary chain or adjuster.
Heres what I know:
107K miles
95" kit at 67K
SE 6SP trans at 85K
Only hears it while on side stand in neutral.
Does it when motor is warm/hot
Oil is full.
Uses 20-50 Harley oil (non-synthetic) in motor
Redline Primary Oil
Redline Tranny Oil
Sounds is on primary side.
Before I tear into it Id like to hear from anyone that possibly experienced the same or similar issue.
Let me know what you think

I had the round chrome cover on the end of the starter become loose one time.
To the eye it looked fine since the only visible bolt on the chrome starter end cover is in the center of the cover.
That one bolt on chrome cover attached to an under cover bracket that was held with two nuts but one nut was missing causing a rattle noise that was very easy to correct but difficult to identify.
It was identified by getting a clean rubber mallet and taping softly around the bike.

Check all the easy stuff first: muffler clamps, jiffy stand mounting bracket bolts, if he has hard bags, check the latch screws/bolts for tightness and also check to see that he has not lost any of the bag twist fasteners, check the horn mount bolt, check the exhaust flange nuts, breather bolts, check the heat shield bands for tightness, etc. Check all exterior bolts for tightness everwhere before hauling off and thinking it's internal.
