'08 FLHX with 45k miles. Once in a while (esp. on a hot day) the oil pressure gauge show <30 lbs w/ ~ rpm little over 3000, it usually is ~ 32 or slightly higher.

Oil level is a little over 1/2, as always. I should also mention the pressure is ok upon start up and during first 5-8 miles, then it register lower than 30 after running it for a while (~1/2 hour continuously).

Should I be worried or should I look into having the oil pump replaced? Going on a long trip in late July, don't want to having it replace on the road.

What's the average life span for a touring pump life? And is replacement really involved?

That sounds normal to me. Mine will hold 32-34 on the highway with temps in the 90's. As soon as I slow down for traffic or headind down an offramp, it drops dramatically and doesn't return to previous levels until I get some decent airflow. (even with a HD oil cooler) My sump temps aren't anything to worry about, though. They're usually only in the 215-230 range.
