Has anyone had their starter sound like the gearing is slipping and grinding when you engage the starter switch? If I start the bike and it starts fine and then I stop for gas and go to restart the bike it sounds as though the starter is not engaging all the way and has a slipping/grinding noise. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 09 FLHTC.

first thing to check is battery condition, cables for clean and tight both ends- always do these first.

there are a few recent threads on starters and how to.

the tip=off is heat.

heat causes resistance in all the wiring and it takes more power from the battery to turn the starter.

just like an old chevy
