Default Exhaust problem v. bracket issue

Alright, spent the day screwing around with getting my broken exhaust off and fitting up the new. Got the front cyl. done and thought the rear would be simple...wrong. There's a triangle shaped support bracket that the stock header was attached to, but the new rear head pipe is hitting the bracket and not letting it fit up to the head.

he header Im using is off a '98 Roadking, my bike is an 01 Electra Glide. From everything I've read it should fit, but Im guessing the support bracket is supposed to be in a different place because of the slightly different routing of the exhaust?

Anyone got some insight on this?

Here's a couple pics of it:

Alright, so Im either just going to remove the bracket or would it be better to trim it and use it?

Is there another bracket that goes somewhere else to support the pipe? I know its not real long but the only other thing holding that whole portion besides the studs in the head will be the bolts at the back holding the slip on

I can't remember but it seems like there should be a mount near the left passenger floorboard

I could be wrong, but I know that the triangle bracket is removed

nope the exhaust needs to be supported BY the drivetrain--- because the whole thing has to "float" together.

the only attachment to the frame is the rubber isolated mount under the saddlebags

here is a diagram of the stock system:

since you are going to an aftermarket style, you, will have to adapt a mount for the rear header.

you may be able to fab a mount to replace the "triangle"- but you need something there.

or grind some clearance

Or you could crease the pipe there to get some clearance- not a 1st choice though...

Notch the bracket for clearance, it looks as if there's plenty there to work with.

Thanks. I'll be clearancing the bracket. I removed it for now to make sure the rest of the exhaust is fitting correctly, which it is.

Looking through that link, it seems they only show one exhaust system for pretty much every bike. Like I said in my original post, my new header pipes are a true dual design (no cross over pipe) that are supposed to be factory from a '98 Road King.

Got everything together sans the bracket and the bike sounds so much better than with the stock header with cross over pipe and screamin eagle slip ons.

Cant wait to get her out for a little ride.
