Default Stage 1 and Stage 2 Modifications

I hear a lot of riders saying that they are done with the Stage 1 Modification ... I hear several riders say that they are done with Stage 1 mod and now doing the stage 2 ... Can someone please tell me what a Stage 1 and Stage 2 modifications will do for the bike? I am not sure what these mods are and what they do.

Thanks

BTW I have a 2001 FLHRCI Road King Classic ... Almost everything on the bike is stock ... I do have 4" Rinehart slip-ons with the High Flow Baffles on the bike ... and it has a Harley Tuner (Whatever that is).

In the SE catalogue you'll see a stage 4 kit! Frankly the 'definition' of the stages is flexible. Stage 1 is replacement air filter and mufflers, which IMHO also requires an add-on tuner, to correct timing and fuelling, to do the job properly. After that come cams, big bore kit, ported heads, stroker kit, etc. Don't get too hung up on the words! Just spend a little more time reading and learning, while considering if you want to start on what some of us find is a slippery slope. Did I mention replacement BIG engines?!

The "stages" are harley's way of describing the basic steps to improve engine performance. Stage 1 is a higher flowing air cleaner, higher flowing exhaust and tuner/tune. Stage 2 adds an higher performance camshaft and maybe bigger bore. Stage 4 will add higher compression pistons and heads/headwork. None of this is "set in stone". It is best to set performance and budget goals then research best way to meet them.

and for useless triva, I think it was Buick who introduced the "Stages" on the GS line of cars in the early 70's.
