I know this is a old link, but i tested my swr on my 2028 roadglide. Meter read over 3.1!!
So i tested the lead from cb module to connector in tourpack, was under a ohm resistance.Than i tested from lead to ant.tip ,read under a ohm.So next i tested the center terminal of lead to tourpack ground plate(under tourpack liner) Showed 0 ohms?? Shouldn't it be an open circuit to ground? If i unbolt load coil from plate it goes open circuit. Can the load coil be shorted. I need help!!

Ahhhh, SWR (standing wave ratio) isn't a function of resistance (ohms) but a ratio of frequency (cps) and wave length (Lambda)
The very low resistance 1 ohm or less indicates continuity, that is good. Since I can't type latin, google up wave length calculator, or cable length calculator. Usually when tuning an antenna, especially a CB antenna you can use Channel 20 (middle of the spectrum) or better tune to the channel you use most frequently. Unfortunately, the Harley antennas aren't tunable, and it really isn't feasible to lengthen or shorten the coax to tune it. In reality a 0 swr is unachievable. In most radio cases 1.5 to 2 is about the best you can get.
Now, reality. The CB's on motorcycles are only about 4 watts, and have no ground plane. They work great for bike to bike communications, but you aren't going to "10-4 Good Buddy" somebody 20 miles away.
Damn, all that Military training, BS and MS degree's 40 years ago and I still remember that crap. Need any info on the Dopper effect or Tropo Scatter Microwave
Good Luck!
