I have a 2005 HD Ultra. The CB does not recieve very well, all other components of the radion, AM, FM, Aux, weather, CD play very well. The handlebar controls all operate properly. The squellch seems too low and the receiving volume for the CB seem low. I can transmit fine and it is clear to others that I ride with. But I can not hear others. The antenna SWR is 1.5 and the output power is 4 watts. The headset can hear the other radio signals AM ect. and I can be heard clearly with the mic..
I am trying to locate the Touring Electrial Manual but until then.....I could use some help.
OK, this may be a dumb question, but have you went into the setup features of the radio and adjusted the squelch, volume etc...?
that would be the fist thing to do...
OK I'm going from memory and I'm old
when you power the radio and hit CB, you should be able to push the mode buttons on the handle bars and this will take you through some setup features, like squelch settings, volume, passenger volume etc...hope this helps
No, but thanks for the effort. I have had the bike since new, used the CB all the time. It just started acting up this season, sometimes working, sometimes working after a little ride, and now not at all. Looks like I will have to wait for the book I ordered and go through the flow charts and trouble shooting.
Sorry I couldn't help....that's one reason I'm looking to go with a J&M CB for the Road Glide, I've a lot of problems with the HD CB....J&M always works and works good.
SWR of 1.5 is a bit high, but should work. Check the obvious...the antenna connector at the tour pak, check for any frayed wiring in the harness. I remove and replace my tour pak and seat often, and I am always checking to see that I don't pinch or crimp the wiring harness in the process.
Other than someone fooling around with the squelch control as already mentioned, disconnect the antenna cable and clean all connections. If I remember correctly, there is also a grounded shield with a bolt going through it for a chassis ground. It sometimes needs to be cleaned also. I use dielectric grease on all of my electrical and antenna connection just for that reason. Also while on the subject, if you will buy a tube of dielectric grease and remove all of the light bulbs and put a dab on the connector end of the bulbs, they will work and last a lot longer.

I did CB installations way back. It sounds like a grounding problem at the antenna or an internal control mode problem. The system itself would not work if the ground was not connected or loose since you said all the other functions are working. If you can, tune the antenna a little to drop the SWR. It should go below 1.0. You may see a slight drop in the output.

I also did a LOT of CB in the past also (had a retail shop) its gotta be a ground / Antenna problem
