This 1937 Morgan Three-Wheeler is the Original Hoonmobile
Earlier this year, I was given the chance to drive the all-new Morgan Three-Wheeler. And when I say all-new, I don’t actually mean all-new. What I mean is that it’s been the same basic design for the last 90 years, as evident from this 1937 model that’s heading to auction next month.
The 1937 Morgan Three-Wheeler still has a V-twin motor upfront, it still has the same wood chassis, and still has the same layout. The only thing different between the new Three-Wheeler and the original Three-Wheeler is the motor.
This original 1937 Morgan is actually the Super Sports Three-Wheeler. It used a Matchless V-twin 990cc engine that had 39 horsepower at 4800 rpm, and used a Amal Side Draft carburetor and a 3-speed transmission. The new Three-Wheeler uses an 117ci S&S unit and a 5-speed Miata transmission.
This specific Three-Wheeler is getting ready to be sold by Bonhams next month, and is estimated to go for around $15-$25,000. So what do you all think? Is this one of the coolest “cars” ever? Or just a sideshow?
