Dan Aykroyd Donates Harley to Comedy Museum

Famous comedian’s Harley will enjoy a place of honor as permanent exhibition.

Dan Aykroyd has done it all. He’s been a Blues Brother, a Ghostbuster, and a Conehead. He’s also a Harley fanatic.

Back in the early days of Saturday Night Live, he’d ride his Harley around Brooklyn and Manhattan, and to and from rehearsals and filming of the show. As one of the original cast members, he holds a place of high esteem in the world of comedy.

Now, he’s donating the historic Harley to the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York, where it will be exhibited alongside other famous comedy artifacts like Archie Bunker’s jacket and part of the set wall from Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.

Over the last six to nine months, many comedians have donated personal items, props, and other pieces to fill the new museum. It should be an exciting experience when it opens in two weeks, and a great way to learn about the history of comedy.

Tom Benson, the chairman of the National Comedy Center, says that “the experience is not an artifact-based experience, but we’ve been able to obtain some really cool stuff that links the electronic experience with learning about comedy artifacts…These artifacts we’ve found are a way to make the experience whole. It adds a lot to the package.”

After riding his motorcycle up the red carpet to the museum, he gave it a goodbye kiss. We’re sure it’s hard to part with something you’ve spent such a long time with and formed so many memories on. We’re glad that many people will get to see and enjoy Aykroyd’s beloved Harley-Davidson in the years to come.

Aykroyd has been quoted as saying that “You do not need a therapist if you own a motorcycle, any kind of motorcycle!” We sincerely hope for his sake that he has another one back home in the garage.
