Former Wisconsin Governor Raises $8,000 for Local Fisher House

Governor Scott Walker may have been the star of Harley fundraiser ride, but it’s just another day of helping his community.

It’s been a few months since former Wisconsin governor Scott Walker left the mansion in Maple Bluff, but that doesn’t mean he’s been sitting around at home. If anything, Walker, who is a noted Harley-Davidson fan, was likely tuning up his 2003 Road King for a summer of riding to promote the state he calls home, and all of the wonderful and good things about it.

Case in point: Fisher House. The non-profit provides a home away from home for veterans undergoing treatment at any given VA hospital, and their families who sometimes accompany them. Milwaukee FOX affiliate WITI-TV was there when he rode up to New Berlin, Wisconsin’s Iron Town Harley-Davidson last weekend, one of two stops of the ‘Thank You Governor Scott Walker Ride’ benefiting the non-profit.

“I love the people on rides. I’ve seen a lot of these folks over the years — many of them I’ve known for the last 15 or 20 years — at rides,” Walker said. “Some are brand new, so it’s just neat meeting people.”

Per WITI-TV, the ride, which also stopped at Indian Motorcycle of Metro Milwaukee, raised a total of $8,000 for Fisher House Wisconsin, who provides temporary housing for families of veterans receiving care at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee.

That wasn’t the first ride of the summer for Walker, though. Only a week ago, he participated in the Concerns of Police Survivors ride, where hundreds of Harley riders raised money for the Wisconsin chapter of the national non-profit, ultimately benefiting survivors of those who fell in the line of duty to their community.

And of course, back when he was governor, Walker did his fair share of riding in between his duties, including as a participant at Harley’s 115th anniversary celebration last year.

He’s definitely kept his silver-and-black Road King looking as beautiful as the day it first arrived at his residence. We definitely expect Walker to put on even more miles this summer and beyond on his ride, helping his state every step of the way.
