Winter Gear – Freeze Out Thermals
When the weather gets cold I do every thing I can to keep riding. One of the least expensive yet very valuable items I have purchased over the years are thermal underclothes from Cycle Gear.
Cycle Gear is one of the largest retailers of motorcycle apparel and accessories. They also have several lines of apparel that are house brands. Freeze Out and for the summer Heat Out gear compete with some very high end brands.
The Freeze Out brand offers head to toe options. Balaclava, zippered Gilet, one piece suits, socks, glove liners, and a couple of variations on those.
I personally use the pants, their older model Gilet with partial zipper, and the glove liners. With this setup under my gear I can ride to below freezing temperatures in relative comfort. Combined with the Richa Spirit riding jacket I can go far colder than I would ever want to ride safely. In fact this setup was used in the snow this past February.
There isn’t a lot to write about these items. The construction is simple, the stitching is robust, and while they could be softer and more plush they work. They also work over and over and over. The pieces I use are three years old and show some wear but are still perfectly functional with no rips or tears. Unless the tear was really big I would definitely be tempted to sew them and keep using them until the material was so thin they no longer offered an insulation.
Then again at an a price of $39.99 or less it wouldn’t take a lot to replace them. Couple this with 100% satisfaction guarantee and a 30 day no question asked return process we can’t think of a reason not to try them.
What do you use to stay warm in the cold weather?
