Harley-Davidson Rally to Honor Late Rocker Gregg Allman
‘Midnight Rider’s Rally’ on Sept. 8 will coincide with the release of the legendary musician’s final album.
The music world lost a true legend earlier this year when Gregg Allman, a co-founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, passed away on May 27 at the age of 69. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee won numerous awards both with the band and as a solo artist across his nearly 50-year career. But Allman wasn’t just one of the greatest musicians of his generation, he was also an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast.
So, it makes perfect sense that the pride of Milwaukee would want to honor the Nashville native. And Harley-Davidson is doing just that by hosting “The Midnight Rider’s Rally” at several locations across North America on September 8. The event coincides with the release of Allman’s final album, Southern Blood.
Allman recorded Southern Blood at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, alongside producer Don Was and manager Michael Lehman. It features 10 new tracks performed by The Gregg Allman Band. A wide variety of notable musicians contributed to the album, including Bob Dylan and Jackson Browne.
If you’re interested in attending one of the rallies (who wouldn’t be?), head on over to the official Gregg Allman site to pre-register. For $20, you get to not only participate in the event but you’ll receive a digital download of Southern Blood. Even better, a portion of the money goes to benefit the Allman/Lehman Endowed Scholarship at Syracuse University.
Each participating location will offer different events, but all will feature a wide variety of giveaways and raffles. Some will even have Harley-Davidson motorcycles on display from Allman’s collection. Well worth the twenty bucks, we’d say. Especially when you get to pay tribute to a man who left us with the gift of such incredible music.
