Harley Davidson Tires Guide

When shopping for tires for your Harley-Davidson, you have literally hundreds of choices. Some tires are from well-known manufacturers while other quality tire makers are less known yet will provide you with an excellent quality tire. Bear in mind that you can choose from a variety of sizes, profiles, styles, and designs.

Three Big Names

Famous makers that produce tires for Harley-Davidson motorcycles are Bridgestone, Dunlop, and Michelin. Two of the manufacturers, Dunlop and Michelin, have partnered with the Harley-Davidson factory to produce specialty tires.

Dunlop

Dunlop has been making tires for Harley-Davidson since 1984. Dunlop tires come in either tubed or tubeless versions, blackwall or whitewall. Sizes range from 16-inch to 19 inch and fit sport, cruiser or touring bikes — in other words, Dunlop manufacturers for nearly all models of Sportsters, Super Glides, and Electra Glides.

Michelin

A self-proclaimed leader in racing technology, Michelin manufacturers a number of tires for Harley-Davidson. Their “Macadam” tires fit many FXSTD and Dyna bikes. The “Scorcher” tire is standard on many Dyna vehicles. The “Commander” tire fits FL, FX, Dyna, and Sportster motorcycles.

Bridgestone

In addition to motorcycle tires for Harleys, this Japanese company (it also owns Firestone) manufactures tires for everything from airplanes to trucks. Its North American headquarters are in Nashville, TN.

Harley-Davidson “Screamin’ Eagle” Tires

Harley-branded “Screamin’ Eagle” tires let everyone know your bike is sporting Harley-Davidson tires because the Screamin’ Eagle logo is clearly visible on the sidewall. According to the factory, Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle tires offer superior grip in both dry or wet conditions and sport an attractive, aggressive look.

More Manufacturers

Less known, perhaps, but never less in quality, are Pirelli, Metzeler, Avon, Continental, Kenda, Duro and IRC tires. All makers produce 16-19 inch tires, tube and tubeless for sport, cruiser, and touring Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

Pirelli is the nation’s fifth-largest tire manufacturer. Located in Rome, Georgia, the company uses high technology to produce a fine line of original equipment and aftermarket tires. Metzeler is a German manufacturer with roots going back to the 1800’s. The company manufactures only motorcycle tires and makes them for classic, sport, touring, and street Harley-Davidsons. Avon has been making tires since 1904 and is now owned by Cooper Tires. Continental is another German company of high-quality tires. Kenda is a tire manufacturer for motorcycles, ATVs and bicycles. Duro is a maker of motorcycle, ATV, truck, scooter and farm tires. IRC makes tires for two-wheeled transportation, including motorcycles, dirt bikes, scooters, and mopeds.
