Harley Davidson VRSC Tire Overview: Options and Recommendations

By -

If you are looking for tires for your Harley Davidson VRSC (V-Twin Racing Street Custom), you should find a lot of options out there. The question comes down to which ones should you buy for your bike? The original motorcycle in this family was 2001’s V-Rod and was served up in response to the muscle bikes. The engine was designed in conjunction with Porsche. That makes this a high performance series of motorcycles and that deserves good tires.

While that high performance nature calls for good quality tires, all
bikes should have them. Since the tires are the part of the bike that
touches the pavement, and therefore provides the stability, they are
one of the most important components of any motorcycle. Never buy
motorcycle tires based on low price alone. They are a safety feature of
your motorcycle and saving fifty (or even a couple hundred) dollars on
tires doesn’t make any sense if you do it at the loss of safety.

Avon Gripster

Avon Gripster tires are designed with an especially deep tread
pattern. This provides a bitter grip on the road, but also helps the
tires to run for more miles than some others.

Avon Roadrider

These tires are designed to afford maximum surface area contact on
the road when at a lean angle. That helps to provide more handling on
turns.

Avon SP Pro Xtreme

Twin Kevlar belt construction provides these tires with extreme
durability. They also offer extra handling in wet road conditions.

Bridgestone Battlax Racing Street Tires

You’ve got a bike with a high performance engine, why not have
racing tires. These are approved by the Department of Transportation as
Hypersport Street and Track Day tires.

Bridgestone Spitfire

Bridgestone Spitfire is a good general use tire. They have the
advantage of costing less than any of the Avon and Battlax tires, while
still providing quality.

Dunlop Qualifier Performance Radials

Another tire that’s great for delivering race track performance.
They are perhaps more affordable than some of the other tires on the
list, too.

Metzeler Roadtec

Specifically engineered to provide excellent handling at lean angles, these tires are great for hanging in on the turns.

Michelin Tires

For the most part, if you go to your Harley Davidson dealer to get
tires, they will equip you with Michelins. The main advantage to these
tires is that they produce factory specifications for your bike.

While the Harley Davidson VRSC provides a high tech alternative to
other Harley Davidson models, that’s only as good as the weakest link.
Your tires are the one part of your vehicle that actually comes in
contact with the driving surface. Since your bike is inherently less
stable than a car (that’s part of what makes it so maneuverable) it
relies more on the tires for safety. For that reason it just doesn’t
make sense to skimp when buying tires. Good tires can be the difference
between making the turn and dumping your Harley Davidson.
