Man, everything is an ordeal! Thunderstorms, working under the carport. So far the important stuff is dry.
So I'm going from the spokes to the mags for a while, just got new tires and want to mess with the spoke wheels off the bike. I don't really know how old the tires are.
My question... on the belt sprocket side, I took off an approximately 1 inch spacer and a 1 and a half inch. Getting the 1 1/2 inch to fit seems like more of a wrestle job than it should be. Looks like I have what I need according to the parts manual. I feel like I'm about 1/4 inch too wide on the spacer. These wheels came with the bike. I just wonder if there are different size spacers for laced Wheels vs Mags. The parts manual isn't that clear.
It might be me or just a weird angle, but the swingarm looks tapered near the rear where the axle nut is.
Like it may have been crushed or over torqued.
The rear is fine, though it looks like you have that spacer in backwards...the tapered end is supposed to be against the bearing cone. I hope you have it easier with the front wheel than me. I got rims from a '95 Fatboy, expecting them to work/swap just fine with the spoked rims of my '97 FLSTC. It seems I wasted a couple hundred bucks, because the front doesn't take the same spacers.
It's going to take someone with a lot more knowledge than I to figure it out, because I sure can't.
Good luck though and I hope you don't have any problems.
Thanks guys. The bigger spacer was on the outside when I took it apart. The swing arm is ok, just dirty near the axle. Bike is super clean and rust free underneath. The washer the nut sits against is definitely domed a bit. I torqued it up and the wheel spins nicely. I need new brake pads for sure. Next project. I'll give it all a fresh look and start with the front after work. ... hopefully that's easier.
Remove the mufflers!?? Come on Man!!!! Going to get a plug kit and a small pump to keep with me or all is for nothing !!
I've found you have to have that last spacer sitting against the bearing spacer as you lift the wheel into the swing arm. I've tried it the way your photo shows but no go.
